Cubicle Decoration: How to Make a Cool Office Space with Fun Cubicle Accessories

Decorating a Cubicle: Proper Cubicle Etiquette
Decorating a cubicle is one way to alleviate the sterile, prairie-dog like confines of a modern office building. It is highly important to be aware of corporate policy regarding cubicle decor, as no fun cubicle accessory is worth losing one's job over.
In addition, proper cubicle etiquette is a must. Remember that most cubicles are open to the general office area, so offensive cubicle accessories should never be used. Any item with overt religious, moral, or political overtones may be considered offensive by coworkers. Avoid the use of any cubicle decoration which might violate the company's sexual harassment policy: a half-nude pop culture icon is not appropriate for the workplace. Noisy, smelly, or otherwise obnoxious cubicle accessories will likely make enemies out of colleagues.
It is possible to find fun, unobtrusive cubicle accessories which will bring a smile (and a taste of individuality) to the cube farm.
Fun Cubicle Door Alternatives
Privacy is hard to come by in an office filled with cubicles. Some corporations will allow the use of cubicle privacy screens or other "doors" on the cubicles. Always check with corporate guidelines before installing a cubicle door or a beaded curtain, as some companies will forbid the use of any obstruction to a cubicle entrance.
Beaded curtains are a fun way to add a "door" to a cubicle. Some beaded curtains are nearly opaque, giving a professional a lot of privacy. Other beaded curtains are more transparent, which might be smiled upon by the corporate Powers that Be. For bosses who frown upon the lack of transparency, suggest tying back the beaded curtain: it will not give much privacy, but it will add some color and fun to a cubicle!
A cool cubicle accessory, a beaded curtain will add color and a taste of individuality to a dull, beige cubicle. Styles range from hanging smiley face beads to a nearly opaque sheet of beads resembling a wooden door.
Fun Desk Accessories
Add a touch of whimsy to the desk in a cubicle, and bring a smile to a coworker's face. Cool desk accessories are easy to find, and range from adorable Scottie dog staplers to a whimsical dripping-sink magnetic paper clip holder. Keep coworkers from stealing a pen by sending out a not-so-subtle message with the Dead Fred Pen Holder!
Choosing a Cubicle Pet
Most animals are unsuitable for life in an office. Most require more companionship than an office environment affords, or are too noisy or smelly for cubicle life. A hamster might sound like a cute cubicle companion, but the smell of rodent urine will get any employee ousted very quickly!
If allowed by corporate policy, a small fish tank makes an excellent calming, fun accessory for a cubicle. Small, one gallon tanks can be found for a small price, and a beta fish is a low-maintenance pet. Be sure to keep any fish tank or other type of terrarium/aquarium clean, as a dirty or smelly tank will invite complaints, not compliments.
Light Up a Cool Cubicle
Using the power of a USB, anyone can brighten up a windowless cubicle. Whether choosing a lava lamp, plasma ball, or fairy lights, a dull cubicle will come to life.
USB lights come in many different styles, including Christmas trees and a miniature lit-up aquarium (an excellent choice if real fish are verboten). In addition to lights, USB powered fans, missile launchers, and even a circus cannon are available!
Cubicle Wall Art
Punch up drab cubicle walls with cubicle wall art. Add personality will fun photos placed into cubicle wall frames. These frames come with velcro or magnetic backing, for easy placement onto cubicle walls.
For a touch of humor, add a "What's for Lunch" decision spinner or a tin wall sign from a favorite cartoon character. There is no need to stare at bland cubicle walls all day: add some art and liven the space up!

There are some great ideas in this Hub. Thanks for posting it!
You can also get a cubicle door at www.coworkerbgone.com. I emailed them and I just ordered the bracket and folding rod sans the fabric cape which is just their type of drapes because I had a cool quilt that I wanted to use as my partition. At my work the bosses are not so much into the organization of the workplace in terms of office and cubicle setups so I had to go out and semi-create a door for my piece of the cubicle farm. And since the powers that be were not office space design policy makers there was no problem with me personalizing my space with a door.

Thanks for the ideas. I used to work at an office where no decorations were allowed - even a calendar was considered clutter. Thankfully I work somewhere else now.
